WTF did they do to search?
So you guys have seen that text about making Google search return worse results and restrict number of results to 10 to make users click multiple result pages... But, have you noticed that sometimes it doesn't return anything at all?
I searched for something on Google and literally got no results. Then I went to fucking Bing and got a bunch of related stuff. What the fuck are they doing to search?

Google search had already crossed the threshold of useless. Fucking it up more does not even matter. Why are you even using google at this point? Its is just muscle memory, you need to stop. Its time to accept the truth, that the internet no longer exists.

Just stop using Google, there's no real reason to use Google Search. The prestige is already gone.

So, what's a good alternative that returns good localized results? I'm south american, and most search engines assume Latin american is one big country, and therefore we get shit from mexico and central american shitholes. Also, if in search in English, I get crap from fucking India

You could try Startpage, it uses/has Google-tier results while stripping the rest.
Apart from that theres DuckDuckGo and Brave Search, I find both to be shit but worth a try maybe.
Bing is not even worth mentioning.

There is no alternative. As I said, its time to internalize the fact that the internet is gone.

They have an effective monopoly, so they intentionally made it worse so you spend more time searching and see more ads. Welcome to capitalism.

Being undiscoverable is almost the same as not existing. This is the approach that's been used for a long time now by the corporatocracy: rather than blocking access and risking outrage, softly redirect them away from the things you want to forbid. See also: social media censorship being 'visibility filtering' and therefore 'not censorship'.

An alternative would require someone to run bots crawling the web. A combination of technical hurdles (e.g. Cloudflare) and legal hurdles (e.g. accessing a CP link gets you vanned, and lack of intent is not a valid defense) make it impossible to compete with the established search providers. Even if you could get around that, it's not worth trying as the recent Shein debacle in France shows that if you encroach too much onto an established market they'll just pull bullshit to ban you anyways.

Well, that sucks. I was hoping someone would compete and fuck the in the ass

The web is dead. You can't crawl what no longer exists. And even if some obscure pockets remain, how would you locate them. The web used to be a sprawling network of links, but now it withers. Most people are locked into the mainstream sites and never leave them.

That's been standard Google for nearly 15 years. Unless its local business related, their results aren't worth much.

They own the internet, developed it, control every aspect of it, so it makes sense to keep them happy.

By recursively following links on a page, same as it's always been done? Crawling is still being done by the major search providers and by organizations taking down websites after glowies spam CP on them.

Maybe try looking into Kagi? Never tried it but it's the only one I haven't seen mentioned here.
There's also SearXNG but your mileage is going to vary with that one.

what do you find more useful? it's still the only one that returns shit based on what i search. the others return complete garbage as most use pagerank algorithm which has been rendered useless thanks to link farms

Search engines are the one thing you shouldn't blackpill about, we have several to choose from, the only problem is that South America Anon needs location services

I was told by a dude who works in online advertising: that Google search being bad is on purpose.
If you spend more time searching, the odds of you seeing more advertising is higher.
So that makes them more money

OP here. This seems to be the actual answer, and it's something that I had thought but forgot. I can't find other way to explain the fact that I got no results at all

They put the head of the Ads team in charge of Search, who specifically put limitations on search to force you to try different keywords. The idea is that the less useful Search is, the more will people try to search alternate terms, which gives more page views, which results in more ads displayed, which results in higher ad revenue.
And yes, said new CEO is Indian, his name is Prabhakar Raghavan.

And no, this is not another /g/ hyperbole, it did happen for real. See:

dude falls upwards because he gets the shareholders money.

His previous job was Yahoo Search, where under his tenure they went from the 2nd largest search engine to a Bing frontend.

Interesting. So let's say that the guy saying the internet is dead is correct. At least in terms of searching things. What is the next logical step? How do people access the data and results that they are looking for with the kind of accuracy we used to get? In my mind I'm thinking a version of internet archive but I have to imagine there's a better solution than that.
