Personal Movie Headset
I want to watch movies on a "mega immersive 1000000-inch 40000k VR augmented reality gigatheater" headset from the comfort of my living room. Are there any good budget options for this? I've been considering these, the Xreal One Pros, but the only unsponsored review I can find says the actual visible display looks more like a 27" monitor viewed from 2 feet. These huge VR headsets don't look comfy... are there any that are great for home viewing and are comfy and won't break my neck?

i have something like these. despite the marketing bs, the fov on these feel small af. but the resolution clarity is as good as it gets right now. if you want huge fov, you need a good vr headset, but the resolution clarify will feel like absolute dog shit in comparison to ar glasses. no such thing as a perfect solution yet and nothing will come for a long while.

This post makes it seem like there are some good options. Maybe he's an Apple shill, but an IMAX display strapped to my face sounds pretty slick. I'm not ready to be a beta tester for $4k, though. Do you have any direct experience with VR headsets on par with the Quest 3 or better?

Which model? Is it useful for productivity, or is it pretty much only good for watching casual videos in tight spaces? Is it accurate to say that it looks like a midsize monitor at a normal desk/chair distance?

have never tried apple vision pro, but they have exclusive access to high quality/density display that no other vr headset has access to. pretty sure its decent and may be close to ar glass micro-oled resolution clarity, but not worth trying for $4k and lack of faith in long term support.
i have a hp reverb g2 which collects dust, which is 4k lcd per eye and may be higher resolution density than quest 3 i dunno. but fov on it is shit relative to other vr headsets.

i have the rokid max for a few years now. have tried out xreal air 1 or 2 i forget which. i chose the rokid because the detail and clarity at the center of the screen was noticeably better than xreal, but the periphery was more blurry than xreal. differences in lenses and my eyes. also the rokid max has 16:10 panels that can be unlocked using a resolution edid editor.
it feels like staring at a 24" 1080p monitor in the pitch dark from 4-5 feet away.
i use it for 3d stereoscopic pc gayman, because i like playing actual pc games in 3d and hate vr gimmicky games. for someone to use these for productivity, they must be a masochist. it will be terrible to use these for many hrs a day. watching a movie in bed or on an airplane is probably fine.
if someone wanted to try them, my best advice is to buy several different brands/models from amazon to try and keep the one you like the most or return all of them if you absolutely hate ar glasses experience because they will all feel similiar enough.

Those glasses have a fov of around 52 and meta quest is around 100. I was thinking of buying some glasses to but ended up not.

Thanks for the feedback
>it feels like staring at a 24" 1080p monitor in the pitch dark from 4-5 feet away.
That's a little disappointing; all of the marketing suggests it's like looking at some 200" display a couple of feet out.

Can you elaborate on this?

They seem to have different use cases as per the above anon's post. It seems like the glasses are more short term mobile display viewing and the headsets are more for the home cinemahh experience and I guess gaymen too but from what I can tell most of them introduce horrible input latency except for PCVR headsets

shader injection to make a pc game to stereoscopic 3d (slightly different camera perspective for each eye). originally from nvidias abandonware 3d vision driver, with niche community that built on top of it so it works with any gpu (dx11 games only) and there are third party drivers too like vorpx and tridef and some mods that turn vr mods to just 3d only.

before with 3d monitors or tvs, you have to use shitty shutter glasses that eye rape with flickering or polarizer glasses that dim and have cross-talk and lose half of the render resolution. but with ar glasses, one image gets sent to each eye. no dimming, no crosstalk, no flicker eye, rape, nice oled colors/contrast, good resolution clarity at 100% render resolution per eye. only issue is the small as fuck fov, but still the best way to experience stereoscopic 3d imo.

Wow, I've never heard of this, thanks for the detailed reply. That's an incredibly niche use for these but sounds pretty fun. Are you playing Minecraft? lol

not that anon but i've done the shader injection thing. minecraft java works fine, bedrock is fucked. most modern games with taa fuck the depth buffer so it's a crapshoot anyway. real problem is fov still feels like watching through a toilet paper tube. if you want actual immersion for movies, quest 3 with skybox vr is your best bet despite the screendoor. pass-through is good enough now you can grab a beer without taking it off. still not replacing my monitor for shitposting though.

actually if you're desperate for that "movie theater" feel, just get a cheap 4k projector and blackout curtains. costs less than these meme glasses, better for your eyes, and you can have friends over without looking like a cyborg larper.

I travel a lot and don't have friends so I think the Quest is a better option, but I'll keep the projector in mind. Thanks!
