You're not thinking 5th dimensionly. JavaScript exists so as to wide spread by enabling mass uptake via emergent phenomena. The incredibly low bar and "poor" language features are a pragmatic way to make any normie be able to use it.
It follows that it rapidly outcompeted every other option BECAUSE it's so shitty.
