I can't believe that I spend my whole day, reading your terms, answering your questions with long ass paragraphs (which is redundant since the info is already in my resume). spend hours making a short video presentation, which has to be one take, so about an hour to memorize and get it right. Uploading documents and self identification shit, making a couple of graphics to show my abilities, have to kiss ass and be presentable, all for a job that I don't even want in the first place. I HAVE to work for you because I don't want to Die of hunger!! "Why you want to work for us?" I don't. Nobody does.
I have a decade of experience, wore many hats, making me overqualified for the position, speak three languages and you still won't hire me. "Not good enough" What the fuck.

Video editing, programming, business development, etc.. There is a million skillsets you could add to yourself that would give your resume a lift. It all depends on where you live and what the market is like there. Besides, if you have a decade of experience you should be able to freelance so fucking easy... Just hit up some old clients and see if they need work done.

Finding a job nowadays without a direct recommendation is a game with the HR.
You will need to search for those "CV protips" where they will teach you how to make your resume cancerigenous enough so the AI they are using to rank your resume gets a high rating. And yeah, they do take low ranked resumes to further steps because it gives them more work, so the HR will seem productive.

Also, use chatgpt/copilot to write your answers. Tell it that he (the AI) is a expert in Human Resources and you need to the best answer for a job application (AI ranks low/mid/high tier answers as equals, so you need to tell it to filter the best).
If you write a good answer with a vocabulary above 100 words for yourself you risk it being filtered as AI generated, that ironically happens less if you ask a AI to write a good answer for you.

So yeah, it is a metagame with the HR, and more often than not you will find ghost jobs. Wish you good luck,

Almost no one has some magical skill set that nobody else can do.
All of it, no matter what industry, comes down to social networking and being personable enough people want to work with you.
From there, having all these skills becomes valuable.
Basically employers want to be able to depend on you getting shit done for them, even if it means you're outsourcing your own job to pajeets. They just want someone in their area, they can get in contact with, who can be trusted and held accountable.

Design's a fine start to a career.
It can't stop there unless you're some incredibly talented artist though. You'll just get outsourced to pajeets.
But learning design, getting acclimated with producing content on a variety of mediums, is a crucial skill today and going forward.
You're not going to do all that well if you make mediocre logos in illustrator and your skill sets stop there. But if you can bang out a wordpress site, produce and edit videos, manipulate graphics well enough to translate across mediums, whip up and manage an email marketing campaign and basically advise on how best the company should approach all of the above, then you'll be valuable in some capacity at literally any organization.
Not to mention you'll have a huge set of skills to get your own thing off the ground if you someday choose to.

Schools, particularly faculty who don't actually work in the fields they're teaching, condition students to think this way.
There's a constant no-true scottsman gate-keeping mindset around various fields, especially design, in academia. It comes from professors, from other students, from the hack local designers who come in to do presentations and all the students believe this person's some kind of big shot.

In the real world, people want shit to get done. The flyer's not a priority, it's a necessary chore. Making it look professional is important, but it's not going to be displayed in a museum. It's going to be sent to a few thousand people and only opened by 2% of them.

School gives you the wrong mentality.

You're not studying/working/practicing to rank well on some universal rubric to score a job that you deserve because of how well you did on that rubric. That rubric doesn't exists. Companies are just groups of people collaborating to make money somehow. What you're really doing is more like trying out for a team (small environments where you need to bring something to the table and get along well with the group) or pledging for a frat/sorority (corpo environments with lots of bloat where individuals are more finicky and how your presence benefits the decision maker on your job weighs more than what you'd overall bring to the company).
Either way, it's about joining a team, or a tribe, or a clique, etc, where you will spend 5/7 days of the week working with one another towards on end goal of making more money for the group which you're a part of.

Sorry bro, just an hour ago I saw an ad for a job as a dancing mascot paying about 1,4x as much as my graphic designer job I got with my bachelors and 3 years experience. It's really hard to get a good job in this field.
