Why are you calling this "Retrofuturism" when it's from a 1940's ad campaign?

To be fair to OP, Streamline Moderne was kinda futuristic for its time.

???
That just makes calling this ad/illustration "Retrofuturism" even more illogical....it's like describing the Parthenon as a "Greek Revival" building.

Define "retro" because a lot of what is deemed "retrofuturism" of the 1960s is getting pretty old now.

Good God that's from the 1940s. That's not modern.

It doesn't mean "old" or "from a previous time" and futurism from a previous era doesn't become "retrofuturism" after some amount of time has passed.

You can look it up and learn what "futurism" and "retrofuturism" mean, you know.

"Futurism" isn't synonymous with "modern" and in the context of design mid century futurism was/is absolutely modern. It's not futuristic in a contemporary, current or state of the art sense, but that doesn't make it "retro".

LOFL, I'm the clearly only one in this thread who knows what any of these terms actually mean.

That's why all you can do is make snarky insinuations and won't even try to refute anything I've said.

Yeah, the term that literally translates to “futurism of the recent past” could never refer to the futurism of the recent past (checks notes - FUTURISM that is RETRO), it could only ever refer to the art that's inspired by it. Got it.

That's literally not what "retrofuturism" means, you fucking sperg. OR what "retro" means in this context.

And in any case it certainly doesn't apply to an 80+ year old futurist image...again, actual futurism doesn't become "retrofuturism" just because it reaches a certain age.

I guess I gave you too much credit for being able to do simple research, and you really aren't capable of finding out what the term means on your own. Maybe ask a relative or neighbor to help you.

If only you could just prove your claim that futurism that is retro is somehow unqualified for the application of the term "retro-futurism". We're all waiting.
