Why is graphic design such a giant, popular field but tutorials and documentation outside of the surface level, popular effects are either lacking or among a horrifying large sea of shit. No other creative field reaches GDs level of garbage imo (i.e. drawing, video editing, music, etc).

If you want to do cool shit or learn interesting ways to use tools that isn't just messing around with filters, you have to do a fuck ton of research or personal experimentation. Doesn't help that most tutorials are by people who purposefully waste your time for money on videos or boomers who have no script and ramble on and fumble their way through trying to each shit.

Skill issue. I rarely use tutorials and when I do I can usually find a 5-10 minute video that tells me enough to do it my own way.

Well, most of the people don't want to have competition and simply cut it there.

In comparison you have the programming industry where you can find so much information and get so much help.

Meanwhile art fucks will only speak about basic shit that a monkey can do so you won't get their job/clients. They make the same fucking tutorial over and over again for newbies that will never approach this industry to generate views. Even if you ask an AI assistant for specific things there are none other than the basic shit that they let it out. The good ones never talk about their approach and process due to the fear of being replaced.

This is unironically partly why I made the thread, i've been using AI a lot to basically be a better google for me so I can sift through bullshit and it's worked pretty well but when I tried using it for stuff specific to graphic design, I noticed it didn't seem to have a lot of good resources or explanations outside of again the essentials. It also tried to shill me plugins that cost a lot of money which when I looked into, these popular plugins seem to do a poor job explaining what the actual features are which give me scam-vibes.

These are the people telling you that AI will be the end of design.

I have two kids that are changing their degrees to animation. Despite my warnings there's not much of that in the south, and it's a rapidly changing field, they persist. Lots of meltdowns about wanting to do what they love and make the big bucks doing it but I can't get them to answer if they know about the job market or salary. Assuming they graduate in 3-4 years, on a scale of 0-10 how fucked are they?

it's already more than a month. but desu it's your fault for exposing your children with animations. people only like what they're comfortable with.

you should've exposed them to MONEY since all you care is MONEY. nothing wrong with that tho i understand that in the end to survive we need money to solve all the shit problems.

my dad made the same mistake, always exposing me to WORK 24/7. now all i do is WORK, all i know is WORK. guess what? now he wants me to focus on FAMILY. too late for that. im just gonna WORK since i only know about that and to dive into the unknown which is FAMILY, INVESTING, HOBBY, TRAVELLING? no thanks. yes im that retarded

you're a dad now OP. u cant rely on your children to do the thinking. you must think AHEAD. be smarter than them. be WISER than them. dont apply your past life unto them. instead, try to understand the current era, explain it to them. my father made a mistake of trying to relive himself into me, so i follow his steps, all i do is oldskool, only to find out that my friends/colleagues are going faster than me because their fathers understand the current era better than my father.

being a father is probably the toughest thing on earth. it's an unforgiving job because your bloodline is on the risk. i dont blame my father tho. just wished he wouldve taught me how to THINK instead him thinking for me... but to do that, he must be WISER than me first.

tell u what, man; tell your sons to focus on MANNERS, APPEARANCE, FAMILY (parents and building his own), SKILLS, WORK, MONEY, INVESTING, and lastly, HOBBY. all of these must be taught together. do not focused on only some or your son will turned out like me.

your sons right now are focusing on HOBBY which should be the last thing. current era is all about blockchain and AI. at least try to steer their interest into these or if you think you know better than me go ahead. perhaps you know something i dont. all the best, man.

also, it's ok to be disappointed if they didnt turn out the way you want or if they failed, but you have to accept them, they're your sons after all

You can't teach creativity and taste. Endless tutorials for specific effects or styles, but you have to put the pieces together yourself.

It's like asking why you're not a famous musician after taking guitar lessons for years. Just because you play doesn't mean you're going to suddenly know how to write a hit song.

You answer your own question in the asking- "graphic design" is a deliberately vague, generic term that encompasses a multitude of methods and practices used (often in combination) to accomplish a wide range of goals.

Everything you complain about applies to any attempt to get more than a surface level overview by approaching a study of things like "practicing medicine" or "aviation" or "woodworking" at that all-inclusive macro level.

0, literally. Ai will leap now hugely. Already does, really.
