I'm not going to say this isn't still off-putting, but industrial agriculture is a game of resource management. Cows are basically a biological machine that can process low-quality protein into edible protein. It's gross, yes, but remember that in nature, there are plenty of animals that do the same thing; a lot of crustaceans, birds, and fish are scavengers that feed on excreta or decomposing organic material, and we eat these animals all the time. We even use some of them in cleaning operations, like tilapia.
The concept of an animal turning inedible stuff into edible stuff isn't particularly disturbing to me, but it's worth avoiding them as food when there is a reduction in nutritional value. What I do hate is how poor the living conditions on these farms are for the animals. Fish farms in particular piss me off.
