使わせたげよ is a contraction of 使わせてあげよ which very much does mean "I'd let you use it". The -てあげる suffix means she is offering something. Rendering 使う with the conjugation わせる turns it causal, so it goes from "to use it" into "to cause (i.e. the other person) to use it".
I do agree with you that both did get it wrong a bit, but the part where head empty messed up was missing the かな~ part adding a teasing "I wonder if maybe I should" tone to the line.
If I had to pick one or the other, though, I'd say that the head empty version is at least closer to the original by way of not adding something to the script that changes the meaning.
