Neokyo is also good, their search engine can find r18 items on yahoo auctions (normally you need an account with a Japanese phone number to browse it). I'm still using Zenmarket but they used to have a 300y fee for items now it's 500y.

I also recommend Neokyo if you want to buy hentai or DVDs, I'm sure you can buy most things on there and while it might take a month to arrive it's worth it, the 500 yen increase is due to a certain fuckers policy

I think it varies country by country, in my case my country happens give books, music and movies (of cultural value) tax free imports, so when I ship them from <store> or <forwarder service> I just have them tagged as "BOOKS" in the package comment option if available.

The customs also seem to have issues processing all those temu packages so they don't even check the contents, at most they seem to open a small hole in the package just to check if it's a book inside (as in pages seen from the side = book, I don't think they ever seen the covers)

I basically ship from Japan post small air packet to my country and wait a month or so for it to arrive. cheapest route, iirc EMS is cheaper to SA than to US post pandemic...

That's probably what they're doing at a minimum, either that or they're much more lax with EAsian packets. I tried sending some non-book (electronic) stuff hidden with a big book from the US without declaring it and got focked.

You gotta filter it by the stores on the left side of the page. Mandarake doesn't do combined orders from different stores. Sahra is your best bet for overseas purchases as they'll send you the invoice and shipping cost immediately since its an online only store. The other stores you gotta wait for the store to physically confirm stocks and send the shipping invoice, sometimes items get bought between sending the order and waiting for the invoice to come in for the physical stores so that kinda sucks.

What methods do you use to get doujinshi and DVDs?

As european I mainly use zenmarket as proxy service to buy from auctions and shops like mandarake etc. however, my method is quite complicated.
Before I used buyee to browse the Adult Only section but since they blocked browsing there I had to find another way to actually browse the categories.
I then found another proxy site called neokyo where it is still possible to browse such sections IF you know the category IDs and their subcategory IDs which I was able to grab via buyee before they completely blocked access to that section.
I then kinda built a copy of the buyee navigation of the Adult Only section but with neokyo links with the corresponding category IDs in the URL and saved them in a private Discord server for quick access.
The only downside is that using the search on the site will automatically kick you out of the Adult Only section so you need to edit the URL with the search terms directly.
If i found an item I want to buy or bid on, I then copy the original auction URL into zenmarket search and buy it using zenmarket.

For shops I just mentioned mandarake, but I also use toranoana and sometimes melonbooks for new releases. However, I have to use a VPN to access melonbooks.

If you have easier methods and also know other online shops I'd be happy to hear that. I still have a few doujinshi on my watchlist but they're kinda hard to find.

I used to use j-subculture for searching auctions but it doesn't seem to work anymore. Now I use neokyo for searching same way you do. Cumbersome but at least it works (for now).

Now I also use LANraragi. Its a local web server for archives (zip) and such. It can download from ehentai and some others or if you already have the zip of doujins, it can fetch the tags.

You can create categories and I could use that for "in collection" or "want to buy" but I only use it for doujins I have.

Sorry, I've never used those. But from my experience, Japan Rabbit is very intuitive. It's very clear about all its (high) prices and has top-notch customer service. On my end, Tenso is the go-to service for anything I can get my hands on since it gives you a permanent japanese shipping address for no real charge. You can store items upwards of 60 (I believe?) days and they let you change invoice info before shipment.

For day-to-day auctions, OneMap (FromJapan) is the comfiest service to me. It's fast, intuitive, has access to a plethora or sites, and recently they started doing their best to cut shipping costs across the board. Customer service also tends to respond incredibly fast, willing to help out with anything they can. The one real downside to it is the lack of 18+ searches, which omits sites like Surugaya and Mandarake.

When I get them I usually flip through them. I don't read Japanese so I just look at the art. Sometimes like the Kaede and Suzu volume, the artists go back and touch up or change some panels they were not happy with, or even add new content. Almost all the manga I buy I have read before online and have it digitally some way or the other. Some times you also get some nice bonus merch when you buy from Melonbooks or Toranoana.

The Fakku stuff is nice because you get the physical book and the digital copy added to your library. Easier to "read" on a computer or tablet than a manga volume. I've seen some people post about reading stands, but that just seems like a pain in the ass and possible mess.
