You are supposed to use tile CN with i2i, it's much slower but it will actually add detail. Start with 0.7 denoise, 0.35 strength and 0.8 guidance end. Fiddle around with the settings until you find a combination you like. Also, I recommend upscaling in two passes.

The latest crop of pictures don't look any better than what you can gen with vanilla SDXL, nevermind base SDXL with some artist and character lora.
I don't believe they could even match some of the early SDXL finetunes in quality, like AAM or Animagine v3.
If it wasn't for the fact that it was the first model to do NSFW nobody would have cared for pony v6 either. It was more of an /aco/ model than an anime model too, had to go ham with the LoRA to remove some of that stain.
