If you get a Catholic baptism
And then you proceed to commit no mortal sins do you just go to Purgatory?
Anonymous No.17896270 [Report] >>17896271
No, you just stop existing. You don't go to some magical plane. What are you, retarded?

Brilliant

>you observe yourself
Not likely, unless you're talking about an out-of-body experience.

Yes. And after you are cleansed of those final impurities you enter the kingdom of heaven to be with Christ.

Then how do you know you're dead?

Depends on what you do. If you attend mass regularly, read the Bible more than half an hour a day or take part in pilgrimages you can skip up on purgatory.

Purgatory is just a state where you have to be purified from your earthy "attachments". The catechism defines these as "temporal punishments" but it's not a violent or negative punishment. It's the equivalent of a Buddhist monk meditating to clear their attachments.

If you want to follow the Catholic definition of clearing your attachments while alive (avoiding purgatory), you have to stay in communion with the church (through mass and teachings) and you'll naturally receive indulgences through regular trips to confession, mass, and study of scripture and theology.

But purgatory isn't a negative thing, so don't worry about it.

That is up to God's infinite mercy, which you shouldn't abuse. If you aim for a low bar you might end up in hell.
tl;dr: It is generally not enough.

This is not even a thing in itself. You can dettach from mundane goods and still go to hell.

>purgatory isn't a negative thing
It is. It is basically a hell suffering-wise. But with the possibility of getting out some day. We are supposed to aim for Heaven.

It's literally not the same as hell you retard. Anyone in purgatory is guaranteed heaven.

And yes, the practice of detachment is there to aid us in building our communion with God. Practicing detachment isn't a guarantee to not be damned, but it's the most effective way to realign your will with God's and avoid sin.

Purgatory is a hell sufferings-wise. Many saints have been allowed to see it in visions. Go read about it. Yes it leads to heaven, but at a high cost. You are not supposed to aim that low, any miscalculation will land you on hell.

I said it is not a thing in itself. It only helps insofar you attach to God instead. Dettachment for the sake of it as in other religions wouldn't lead the soul anywhere.

No, you get excomunnicated to hell. In other words you must go live south of the Sahara or India, or some other non white place where the demons are.

You cannot "aim" for anything. Your aim is at best the disposition for wanting heaven. Our individual actions towards the goal of heaven amount to nothing as the Grace of God is the only true way we can get to heaven. No one is "aiming" for purgatory, but it is the most natural path for is as our nature is as sinners. Everyone is heaven is a saint, and everyone in purgatory is part of the elect and will become a saint. Very few are worthy of being recognized as a saint while they were actually alive.

No, in a vacuum the original sin itself sends you to purgatory (limbo of the infants is where unbaptized, deceased infants go). If you are baptized (purging you of original sin) and then common no further sins, you are free of sin and go to heaven.

There are a lot of venial sins

Probably. Also, if you don't attend church or pray for the dead, according to the DC.

Do Catholic baptisms even count to most Protestants, anymore? I'm sure that plenty of the first Lutherans and Calvinists were content with considering themselves baptized, but the Baptist movement may not have been much of a thing that early on. Do modern Lutherans and Reformed typically want formerly Catholic converts to rebaptize?
