>be a local peasant
>come home one night
>wife tell you a Christian priest came in , demanded food and drinks and didn't pay
>wife possibly lied about not being paid
>get angry and chase after the priest with skis
>Catch him on a frozen lake and axe the priest to death
>Become a sort of folk hero
>Possibly never happened also, who knows, it's a legend

One of the great paintings:

I can’t help but feel like everyone in the Napoleonic/Romantic period was consciously LARPing as classical heroes. The baroque period is so much cooler.

iconic
I think most people don't even know this represents an actual historical event with real people (yes technically its not 100% confirmed that Ivan hit his own son but its the generally agreed upon version currently)
also it hits even harder given what Ivan did to strengthen Russia only for this moment, in the final years of his life, to then basically lead up to the time of troubles
pic related is also kino
>The painting shows the last minutes of boyarin Feodorov, who was arrested for treason. To mock his alleged ambitions on the tsar's title, the nobleman was given tsar's regalia before his execution.
