I don't see why it wouldn't. This is still a larger population than every other Western country post-WW2, and the USSR was so shit that even if it had more people it was still going to collapse.

However soft power for the U.S would be a lot harder, though Old Stock white Americans remained the majority ethnic group historically, the presence of lots of eastern euro/italian/whatever else descendants was usually good diplomatically and helped form relations with other countries.
