Powerful states tend to administer more territory than they can handle. Logistics, governance, and defense eventually strain resources.

The strength of nations lies primarily with how organized they are. Well-organized but small nations can punch above their weight, terribly organized empires can be almost completely ineffective.

they rot from the inside due to greedy practices. roman senators, europeans aristocrats, jewish billionaires, they all kill the nation as they slowly amass greater power and hoard wealth. once it becomes more profitable for the ruling elite to take from the pockets of the plebs within their control than to take from those outside the nation the decline begins.
