Animals evolved pattern recognition to notice predators and dangerous plants, Humans evolved higher pattern recognition along with the rest of our minds ascension and with that came an instinctual recognition of beats, which would've helped us communicate before language via grunts, whistles, and growls. This would lead to the first languages and music. It's why poetry is pleasant as well and why you can be a fan of music from entire other cultures even if you can't recognize the lyrics.

Didn't some old Persian once suggest that music was the universal language of Babel? Or am I smoking crack? I can't find it anywhere.
