Modern day fascists need to separate themselves from the atrocities of their past, in order to make themselves palatable to the present population. Straight up denying the documented evidence of their past genocide is a part of this strategy.
They're doing this because there are signals of the decline of neoliberal efficacy due to economic stagnation. Simply put, there is no longer enough economic growth to sustain state welfare programs. In order for capitalism to remain dominant, it must now turn to fascism, using state violence instead of state welfare in order to maintain control. In order to get fascists into power, they need to make them palatable to the voting population.
This is entirely an economic necessity. They will tell whatever lies they need to in order to garner sympathy and voters. Discourse over the validity of the Holocaust is a distraction that only serves to benefit the fascists. The holocaust did happen, end of story. We need to instead question the core contradictions within our crumbling economy and how to solve them, so that we don't succumb to state violence and eventual extinction.
