No it was because India was heavily forested and war elephants. Mongols only worked well in open steppe or desert terrain.

Delhi Sultanate at the time was not a weak state. Admittedly the Mongols had conquered stronger ones but those were closer to Mongolia and had better terrain.

Dense jungles, really big fucking mountains, severe humidity. Geography made it extremely difficult and not worthwhile. Delhi was also powerful but were it not for those geographical issues, I doubt that would have stopped them.

the Mongols easily conquered Yunnan and Guangxi in China which are also heavily forested, humid, and full of big mountains
Mongols also excelled at enslaving and converting newly conquered troops to their side, to the extent that many of their armies in China were majority Chinese
