Peak oil failed. It failed because of meth. If you die of meth first it doesn't matter.
Peak oil will kill billions of people but they die primarily of meth first because meth is happening faster.
Any sane person kills themselves in the face of multiple impending crises rather than chooses to continue. Peak oil manifests as fraud because most oil is fake and the tolerance for faking sets the failure rather than the amount of oil reported produced.
The world has in reality lost 40% its oil production since 2018 and it has to reach 60% before everything rapidly gets worse. The only evidence before then is minor increases in effort to move tar and other nonviable fuels. Tar is 20% denser than oil and oil transport cost is 10% its own energy so the 40% tar has caused 1% loss of total global energy. Completely negligible so far.
More consequential is the fact that the 10% of workers still working energy are mainly producing fake oil with no result and the fraud is keeping them employed. Had these people been fired capitalism would have collapsed years ago.
The 1% increase in cost has reduced refinery profits 10% resulting in a few percent closure of refineries. The refineries closing hasn't affected the reported amount of electricity produced because America cut diesel exports to Brazil, cut long distance air travel, and stopped increasing natural gas plant construction.
