V. OIRAT & DZUNGAR KHANATE (Western Mongols, ca. 1600–1758)

The Oirats, western Mongols (separate from the Khalkha Mongols of the east), rose after the collapse of the Northern Yuan.
They formed the Dzungar Khanate, a powerful nomadic empire rivaling the Qing and Russians.
