>average
Madison had to pick up the pieces of statehood Jefferson left in his wake, faced what could have been a civil war (or if you're familiar with Alan Taylor, what *was* a civil war), nearly lost out on a second term, and had to watch the White House burn on his watch because he fell for Jefferson and Sam Adams' bullshit about "muh militias of democracy". He was anything but average and is thoroughly underrated because of sheer bias.

Grover Cleveland was shit
Teddy Roosevelt massively overrated; had "aura" but actual accomplishments were nothing special
Polk was great
Grant wasn't great but was sure as shit better than fucking Buchanan

They had tier lists back then?
>>18155259
Things were different back then
Interventionism began from Wilson
People actually believed in imperial democracy
Wilson created the league of nations
Wilson wanted to spread free trade
Woodrow Wilson was pretty much THE American
He won a war for America too
His fourteen points are still respected in boomer circles
HOWEVER, after reagan and nixon and carter people started to lose faith in democracy and after bush's pointless war on Iraq, you could say the view on Wilson changed entirely

I'm just surprised by it
Wilson joined WW1, killing thousands of Americans needlessly
Wilson's 14 points amounted to nothing
Wilson did not join the league of nations
He tried to and I guess his intentions were okay, but the result was a failure

Wilson had the most successful domestic presidency until FDR. And most historians see him being prevented from joining the League of Nations as what led to WW2 and blame the failure on the Republicans.

>why is grant so low?
Same reason as Harding.

What did he do? Zoomer and I have no idea what he did beside like helping indians and finishing up reconstruction

He didn't help Indians, it was him who launched the Dakota Wars after prospectors found out the area was gold rich. Likewise, despite the modern liberal consensus of him as a great Civil Rights hero, his enforcement of reconstruction was lackadaisical, and more so aimed at keeping Republicans in power in the South. Beyond that, the nation had the worst economic downturn until the Great Depression under him and was plagued by scandals, much like Harding. However, unlike Harding, Grant personally interfered and fired the prosecutor against one of his corrupt officials, Oliver Babcock.
