Unless someone happened to keep the original 35mm film reels, I don’t see any reason for NBC to keep a copy of the original broadcasts other than for archival reasons. I never called anyone from the network though so it’s all conjecture… there’s a real chance at least one person out there taped an episode back in 1979 that hasn’t fully degraded but it’s unlikely.

I went through the public copyright catalog and found listings for the six episodes. The copyrighted episodes are on 16mm film and owned by Universal City Studios. They're most likely being kept at NBCUniversal's huge film archives. Absolutely zero chance Universal would've destroyed any film copies on purpose. If the film reels are gone, it would be due to something unfortunate like a vault fire. It's very probable that the episodes still exist, but I doubt they will ever re-release them.

This film was shot during her Hair stint on Broadway. I love that she appears as an audition singer and it predates the Special to Me audition in Phantom of the Paradise by three years!

Aspiring professionals such as Kathy Bates perform original songs and it’s a fantastic film. You even hear Jessica’s name called in a later scene, indicating she herself had an audition but unfortunately, her scene was cut from the film and the audition song wasn’t included on the Taking Off soundtrack.

Upon initial release, Fox butchered Suspiria for the American audience by removing several crucial kills, yet it was still a box-office hit!

I first posted on /b/ sometime back in 2012. However I ditched it for /tv/ and /mu/ in 2014 and agree the mods are way worse now compared to then. Funny enough, around the same time I’d pop in here and contribute to Sersh threads on occasion. I’ll see you around

I’ve made edits for many of these to post on other boards not only due to size limits but because many of these shots are simply too dark on the Synapse 4K, as seen ITT.
I actually color matched a couple Blu Ray frames with the 4K as I wanted the same colors but with the added benefit of 2160p resolution. I haven’t posted any yet but one example is the airport shot at the beginning with Harper and Nicolodi.

Regardless of the color differences between BR/4K, Synapse blows Videa’s release out the water. Funny enough I’m pretty sure the first time I ever saw Suspiria it was the Videa release and I regret not doing two minutes of research on which version to watch prior. It’s not unwatchable but the colors truly pop out in the Synapse restoration.

To illustrate my point, here’s a same-shot comparison of the opening kill on Videa (top) and Synapse BR (bottom).

Regarding the shitshow ending, was Suzy a latent witch? It’s obvious she was in the remake but it’s a bit more subtle here.

I mean she looks incredibly mischievous in this shot if you zoom in… everything collapses around Suzy and she makes it out of the academy relatively unscathed.

I read once that even Jess herself wasn’t aware of what exactly was gonna happen during parts of this sequence, meaning her reaction was authentic as windows shattered, lightbulbs exploded, and doors split open.

To put it nicely, it was a pure clusterfuck.

I can see that, even though I can't help but remember this quote from a 1999 interview:

I'm glad to see you around, though – I've enjoyed our brief exchanges. I remember you bringing up the fact she dated the director of Inserts and I've never seen that mentioned anywhere online. It made sense when I saw he was from Winnetka though.
I've also never seen anyone bring up the fact Harper was dating Woody Allen when he met Mia Farrow. I stumbled across an excerpt from Allen's autobiography deep in the archive once mentioning they casually dated during the year or two period Stardust Memories was made.

That would make sense given she was going to be in Annie Hall but turned it down for Suspiria, requiring her to relocate to Rome for 4 months. I like that he cast Jessica in something so early in her career though (1975).

for what it's worth, everything i've shared is the biggest i've got when we talked about anything regarding jessica. about the last thing i can share that is probably found nowhere else is the two are very close still to this day and they both loved wizard of oz growing up. seeing as she has a podcast (didn't even know!) i'm sure there's more mentions of her brother and juicy info that i never got that can be found there. oh, and her brother lived like right across from neil young in the 70s, he recalls seeing larger mysterious places drop packages off throughout the decade. i'm guessing jess had to have met him at one point since the two have always been close

Looking at the bigger picture, it must've been interesting discovering her during that 16-year hiatus between Minority Report and the Suspiria remake when she essentially "soft retired" to focus on her family. It's a considerable change of pace given she just starred in two films within the same year plus a new one screened at SXSW last month.

Following up on this post to say, as a relatively new fan, I can't help but respect you for still being one after all these years given like you said, our tastes change considerably from when we were teenagers. So I checked eBay on a whim a couple weeks back and happened to come across someone living in Phoenix (lol) selling this songbook for only $20. It features sheet music and lyrics from the LP recorded by the Goggles quartet in 1970 and subsequently performed in the tie-in NBC Children's Theater episode "Super Plastic Elastic Goggles" aired in January 1971. It was sold for $2.50 at the time which is, interestingly enough, ~$20.50 adjusted for 2025 inflation.
Most of the NBC series is lost and the Goggles episode, starring Jessica very, very early in her career, is unfortunately impossible to watch unless you visit the Paley Center in NYC/LA. There are quite a few pictures in this booklet I haven't seen anywhere else and honestly, it always makes me feel some sorta way seeing something "new" for the first time even if it's from 50 something years ago. I hope you guys enjoy them too!
