in my opinion, some of the best engraving work of the early 1800's can be found on the banknotes from the several hundred (now obsolete) banks from the era.

The big name in bank note printing was "Rawdon, Wright & Hatch"; and their head engraver was a man named Freeman Rawdon. His work can be seen on several notes.

This is a portion of a note from The Tecumseh Bank, (of Tecumseh Michigan)

Thanks. Here's a portion of a note from the Bank of Wisconsin (chartered by Michigan when Wisconsin was still part of Michigan). The image shows the meeting at Green Bay where a treaty with various native tribes was signed. I forget if this was the treaty of 1828 or 1836; but probably the 1836 one
