I thought the movie was generally good. I like some of the small details they included like the cars in Metropolis having Delaware plates. There were flaws like character assassinating Jor-El and Lara, some of Clark's behavior being out of character, and points where the Marvel humor undercut serious moments, but I think it is generally a good first step to rebuilding their cinematic universe.

I think the casting choice for Kara is good, and they got her personality right, but I'm not sold on her being a drunk party girl, though one of my online friends who's a much bigger DC and Kara fan didn't have a problem with it. It just depends on whether they have strong enough writers to provide a decent reason for it and give her an actual character arc, but the way Hollywood writes female characters these days doesn't give me a lot of confidence that they'll give her any such nuance.

The real challenge is how they're going to tackle the formation of the Justice League. They rushed into it last time without properly developing any of the characters or their relationships, so we'll have to see if they learned from their mistakes.

The only reason WB has been doing better these past few years is because of the success of Barbie, Minecraft, and Sinners. At the same time, Disney has run out of steam, which has also helped WB’s somewhat larger market share recently.

But even then, keep in mind that Minecraft is the best-selling game of all time—yet the movie was such garbage that it failed to cross $1 billion. WB definitely expected it to perform as well as Barbie.

Her movie is based on a comic where she's a bit of a party girl at the start, but only because she's trying to drown out the trauma of personally witnessing the death of Krypton. Superman never knew Krypton and grew up with loving parents, Supergirl watched everyone she ever knew and loved melted and blown apart by erupting Kryptonite geysers then ended up floating in space alone for years. In the comic she has to face her trauma and learn to move past it, with the help of an alien girl who wants to kill the alien who murdered her family.

I'm only apprehensive because Hollywood and being faithful to the source material are like oil and water.
