How do you guys do drills?
I really struggle with that kind of hairstyle. Any tips?

Sure, i'll provide if thats what you wish for. Just prepare your eyes for total /beg/ shit. Any useful criticisms and tips regarding the face, the hair and the hat are welcome
as this took an alarming 4 hours to make, and for when i got to the lower body i just gave the fuck up and did whatever came out of my sleep deprived mind with my hand full of pain.
For reference, this is the kind of angle i wanted to get. I almost never draw things that aren't looking straight back at me, and i really like that one sketch... So i thought i might as well try and capture it doing a different character and a more deadpan expression. Hopefully you can help me a bit, thank you very much.

You do realize they look like intestine and croissant, right?

Does it? Take a bite and let me know if she tastes like croissants.

I'm giga beg but i just do a ribbon that swirl. Your reference pic seems to be kinda like that but more compact

>>7701655
The one on the left looks like a zigzag/crunched up ribbon, the one on the right seems more like a single solid object.

Keep in mind i might just be dunnig krugering

Your problem isn't drills. Copy settei of characters in a style you want to draw like in that angle until you understand it. If you have an illustrator you want to draw like who did that angle, copy it too.

Hi anon! Thanks for the tip. I've head that one and tried it, but it comes off weird. If i had to pu it into words, its that the hair doesn't look tridimentional and ends up kinda looking like the left drill. Not sure how to fix that...

I had seen things like that, but didn't know they had a name. I'll give it a try!

make some fusilli and draw it

Try drawing a simple spiral as a guideline. You are going to be seeing it from the top, so imagine the spiral receding back in space as you draw it. This intuitive 3D sense is something you will have to develop over time if you want your drawings to look 3D. You might also try creating a reference model for yourself using a strip of paper or a cardboard tube.

Text reads:
((Drawing drill hair.)) Make an outline of the hair, and draw strands diagonally downward the outline. The add backs to the strand to make it more 3D, and add detail and texture.

What's your PB in Daioujou? Always good to see a Shotia fan.

The other pictures look like nonsense, but the horizontal tube one is impressive. I don’t think I’ll ever be able to express weight like that.

Thanks for all the references anon. I think i finally get it... I never shaded the hair, thats why it looks so plain. That being said... I wish some of those explained how to add detail appropiately. When i put strands around it just ends up looking messy.

I'm sorry to dissapoint, i don't really have a PB to say so. I have only ever cleared the first loop, so no Hibachi kills to brag about. I was only interested in 1ccing my first round, so i actively hurt my score to reduce rank and chained just enough to stack the neccesary hyper meter. I remember it was somewhere in the 3-4 Million, but thats was it, a survival clear. I've yet to reach my goal to 1cc with B-Shotia, as i play White Label, and no one really seems to have bothered routing that one. Ingenuity only took me so far before the issues piled up, and without any real guidance, it'll take some time before i do it, considering i've sidetracked and stopped actively trying to get it. Still. i'm very happy with my A-Shotia clear, as unforgiving as it can be dying once with her.

Love you, best girl.

The left one looks like crunched up zigzag because the lines does not go all around the drill I think. Your other drill has too many lines I think, try only making a few big ones then add a few more for details
Anonymous No.7702758 [Report]
Alright. It was a very long day... But i got a small moment of solitude to give it a try. I didn't like the 2nd and 4th one very much, but they were honest attempts. Shotias drills look a bit different to the ones i'm used to, so it's been hard. No choice but to power through it i guess.

Honestly? I kinda like how the right one came out. The only complaint i have is that i had no real reference on how to end the tip, so it looks more compact than hair-like. I'd still say i'm happy with it, usually i hate my drawing a lot more when i look at them. The observation for the left one is very useful though.
Anonymous No.7702775 [Report]
Alright, some last bit of fun before sleep. If i'm honest, this kind of thing is what i enjoy doing, just sitting for a bit and doodling something quick. I'm not happy with how this one came out, but if i don't let it be i'll catch myself taking forever taking to perfect something i'm not supposed to. How do you get better at that? Just drawing faces of whatever fast and making it look decent.

I am also drawing some drills.
I drew a through-line for the whole form, then a series of ellipses with their long axes perpendicular to the through-line, then gave the ellipses some height and connected them to the next ellipse.
What really makes them look like a complex structure are just a couple of off-shoot strands on top of the basic screw form. That and making sure that the lines that don't run along the curve of the screw curve the opposite way.
The thin as shit yellow paper is where I constructed the thing before tracing it to the better paper.

You're pretty thorough with details anon, its coming out really nice. I hadn't considered using a line to build the overall structure, so i'll be giving that a shot on my next try. Thanks for your guidance.

Haven't been able to draw lately, but i'll be back with some more drill girls. Do you guys have one in particular you like?
