I didn't know what to do with the adult's hair so it looks pretty sloppy
and his facial expression looks a little kinder as an adult which feels backwards
but generally I think this helps get a better feel for what characteristics register as child vs adult, so my bottoms will look more clearly like adults.

that's pretty much it, the cool thing about CSP that I didn't know about is how easy it is to work the mask layer compared to photoshop where you had to use black and white to mask stuff, while here you just erase and paint to enable/disable the mask. The other cool thing about it is that even if I already have set the colors I can still go back and work on the original black and white layer whenever I want to edit stuff while the colors remain there just fine.

Protip if you're taking photos with your phone-
First off, try to take it in good lighting. A desk lamp off to the side, preferably with a daylight white bulb of around 1500 lumen, will make for a much clearer and cleaner photo to work with. Secondly, download Snapseed. Zero ads or paywalls and is hands down the best app for simple photo adjustments. Plus there are no AI gimmicks. A quick tweak to brightness/contrast or curves will get you 90% of the way to a clear and easily readable photo of your drawing. The selective edit mode is especially helpful for more fine tuned editing, because you can use it to select the background to whiten it and your lineart to darken it fairly easily. The dodge/burn and exposure brushes work well for touching up lineart that's gotten too faint or to get rid of specks in the background.

What I suggest is picking a fairly plain brush but making the opacity, hardness, and size change based on pen pressure

I'm a marker/oil paint user and that's the strat I've found to be the most helpful at replicating the feeling of markers/oil. Aka I'm sure depending on your previous supplies-of-choice it could be altered to fit what you are comfortable with

If you're asking about hacks/application tips I'd go with greyscale (for the values) -> color mapping (for a variety of undertones) -> then refinement (to make it less muddy/add variations mapping didn't do) Then you can mess around with the in-application hues/values/filters if desired

Maybe disregard the previous based on what your goal style is, and instead watch speed draws from people you want to draw like

I was trying to decide if he should have a flaring trenchcoat but that looked incongruent with the rest of him, but a flat trenchcoat looked dull, so this is where I settled and I think it's ok. I meant for the end of his shoes to look sort of like a knight's sabaton, and his pants to be vaguely evocative of fascist pants

Your tiger is really good for your first time drawing an animal. I think the best cheat is to learn human anatomy and find the similar anatomical points on the mammels and to some extent lizards and reptiles. They've got knees and necks and rib cages too. Also, I changed the position of the legs becasue its torso seemed a bit overly long with that pose.

They have a signature shape of their facial fur with specific marking locations but I believe every tiger's stripes are unique to them, so you can bullshit it and most won't be able to notice issues unless they're deeply autistic. The tail gets darker the further towards the tip. The paws seem no to taper around the wrist or "toes/fingers", being more of a meaty glove. Their claws are retractable so you can just draw a line for them. Plus iirc they have round pupils that are pretty big most of the time unless in direct sunlight.

I'm working on a VN and while I haven't finalized any of my characters, I did a test run of making some cells for other characters and it turned out neat. these are from like almost a year ago and I didn't have a set routine down, but basically what I did was

Isolating parts of the drawing helps with coloring, not worrying about spilling outside the lines when using a large brush, hiding things in the background, you can spend the time to make a solid layer and save brain cells later on, if your lines are good you can just use a fill tool as well.

Tried larger dark areas but i dont like how it turned out.
Top i used a brush ink pen, you can see the strokes and its not really uniform.
Bottom an alcohol marker, way harder to control and I fucked up a lot. It also bled through the page a tiny bit which is annoying.
I dont like either option desu. Anyone know a good way to black out large areas without the streaks and bleed?

Some hobbies are fun almost immediately. Like woodworking. If you take your time, even a complete novice can make something respectable. Sure, babby’s first wooden box isn’t likely to be a masterpiece, but it’ll still look nice and you will have gained invaluable skill in your next projects.

Drawing is not like that. Shitting out stick figure tier drawings ad infinitum is not fun to me. The end product is shit and I don’t seem to gain skills/insight in the same way. I bounced off of art more times than I care to count cause it just wasn't fun.
The others are right, only doing studies/exercises will not be fun. However personally, I also didn't find doing my own stuff very fun either in the beginning. I would be excited for an idea only for it to end up like absolute dogshit and the disappointment would outweight the excitement tenfold. It was pretty hard not to just grind boxes because of this. This is what caused me to quit very quickly everytime.
Thankfully, it seems that each time I tried I at least learned some stuff, cause the last time I started I was finally able to somewhat construct mannequins from reference. That's the point where it got kinda fun for me, cause I was able to actually get something that resembled the characters I wanted to draw and I was able to move them in a very limited way. Kids and people that are actually in it only for the process probably enjoy it from the beginning, but otherwise I would say once you're able to "photobash" stuff you want from reference it will probably start becoming fun.

If you want to truly be autistic about heights, I recommend making a height chart that uses the average skull size along with your measurement of choice.

I am a Burger, so I use inches. I converted your height desired into consumable burger inches, slapped the skull on it, and then drew the body to reach the height and attach the skull. Skull averages are just that, averages, so you can shrink or expand the skull SLIGHTLY in order to acheive a more balanced look. But they're not going to be 8 heads tall, as adults have similarly sized heads, and children have smaller heads. This is why dwarves do NOT look like small children; their organs and brains and the like are sized like adults.

I also grabbed a photograph/still from someone who claimed to be of that height and compared my accuracy. My skull size was off initially, as was the size of the ribcage. It's fixed here though. The 8-heads-tall thing is largely a suggestion and isn't accurate to life or all people.

It's always been fun. There are very frustrating moments for me, but I think being able to create extra artwork that wasn't given to us for things (video games, books, cartoons) or drawing something as a present for a friend or family member or even pet felt like a gift unique to me. But I started as a child, and had support at that younger age rather than ridicule as an adult with the same drawing level. A tween drawing something that isn't stick figures was met with positive reinforcement, which then also nurtured the fun of it.

As and adult in my 30's, it becomes harder to please people, and the compliments I do get I take to heart (or dismiss as patronizing). There's plenty of /ic/ people who've "made it", they just lurk or disappear entirely because they have no reason to post here anymore.
The barrier of entry to being hired for projects is much free-er than ever before, but the bar for skill has gotten much higher.
Not saying that all pros are better than every hobbyist or that he's a bad artist. He's quite good, and he has a lot of cool concepts but has no real concrete portfolio that could be utilized or sold as a product (either as an individual artist or part of an artist team).
My point is that ultimately most of his work looks unfinished, unrefined and low resolution, which isn't exactly going to work for anything "professional".
Again, if you were really good enough to be in the industry, you wouldn't be here wasting time posting art for idiots like the guy he just mogged. Literally no value for you other than wasting time for free (yous).

back home from visiting my father and also having a partially subdued migraine and somehow manage to crank this masterpiece out waiting for the bath to fill, sans reference
maybe once the migraine wears off I'll realize it looks terrible, but for now I really really like it and how it mixes perspective and dynamic poses and expressions
