Actually you could say that for nearly any manga artist - I believe a very large portion of them get their start in the doujin (not sure if that's how you spell it, and I'm not looking it up) scene.
So I think it just shows that a nsfw reputation won't define you, if you don't make it your entire identity.

Of course people will remember you for porn, if that's all you do.
And if anything else you make is just half assed, like live streaming, why would anyone know you for that?

Not really. The mangaka for Dangers in My Heart also made Mitsudomoe before that and around 200+ chapters too. I dont think people remembered her solely for drawing lolis (Mitsudomoe) recently.

Wally Wood did a lot of Raunchy Work, and while he's known for it, no one thinks of him so much as a smut artist, as they do a comic artist in general - his work is just that celebrated.

There's also the Archie Comics guy, Dan DeCarlo (picrel), I believe he did his fair share of smut too, but obviously he's not known for that.

So really, it's just about diversifying your work, and not making smut your entire personality.
A good example of the opposite is Z0ne, who's entire schtick is that they make smut, and are horny. They don't even do much porn now, yet it's still all they'll be known for, because it's all they've really made, despite mostly being streamer (I believe) right now.

Most of their NSFW art is softcore pinups and cheesecake, nothing hardcore like what SpeedoSausage does. As far as I know, he's the only one from that mid-2010s Tumblr/Newgrounds porn animator era that actually made something successful that didn't get people's dicks hard. Most of the other ones like Noill, Colodraws, Diives or Derpixon tried and failed to break into SFW projects.

I know him for his his war dogs art and character, and also know him for how pissed off I get at him for never doing anything with that creation. His nsfw career seems to be a more recent thing, so it's the opposite - he was a sfw creator breaking into the nsfw space with his comic series.

So you've listed 2 people who are strictly drawing porn, and one who's recently broken into the space and is currently making a porn series, they're not even slightly comparable to an speedorou (or doujin artists), who has a body of sfw and nsfw work that's comparable to each other in terms of complexity and quality.

So it seems to be that western nsfw artists just tend to stick to that niche if that's what works for them, rather than diversifying and also making sfw content.

The animations can be funny and memetic for the schizophrenic fever dreams they are.
His style is nice to look at.
But his porn was always absolutely mediocre. You could tell back then that the guy just wants to fuck around and not make porn.
Problems is; most "cultured art enjoyers" really don't give a shit about anything that isn't porn, but when it is they will literally throw money at you.
The thing with going into SFW is that it has the potential to be way more successful than nsfw, but it's also a huge risk, whereas NSFW is easy, has a low barrier of entry and can make you money relatively quick because of audiences being instantly interested in anything that makes them horny.

"NSFW" is newspeak for websites that don't let you say "Porn", like youtube.

but also, "NSFW" is anything a coworker, boss, or teacher would complain about, even if there's no genitals or acts of sex taking place. this includes swimsuits, prominently displayed feet, and characters that are fully clothed but have deviantart-tier body proportions.

it's a good term to use because the average NEET or horny middle-schooler has vastly different ideas of what constitutes as "appropriate" to have as a phone wallpaper in public.
