Honestly if I saw beautiful sketchbooks in the garbage, I'd be tempted to just go diving maybe put some of that up on my wall if it could be cleaned up and framed. Especially if it had local colour.

My sketchbooks are all just scribbles and studies, so it wouldn't effect me much at all personally, though it is nice to flip through and see my progress.
However if you were the type to do be elaborate finished drawings in your sketchbooks, I can imagine it being akin to all your art files becoming corrupted.
I don't upload any of my art anywhere besides here, so I'd be miffed, because all my effort and time would be gone like piss in the wind.
But the results of those accumulated efforts, my skills remain, so it wouldn't break me, but the disappointment would be immense.

As for your scenario, assuming it wasn't an accident, it'd be an immediate breakup situation; why throw out something so important to your spouse? It seems like some sick power move that's akin to partner abuse (destruction of property), or equally as bad, they are so ignorant your hobbies and passions that they just didn't know (or more appropriate to say; they just didn't care).

As a teen I got into fights with my sisters and because I grew up on this site, and was an edgy boy they couldn't really get to me so there were times I would bother them so much that they'd destroy my sketchbooks. One was put into the bath tub and drenched in water, another was written on with lipstick. I still have those sketchbooks though. It's really weird growing out of that and having to be a human being instead of an asshole though.

without watching the video yet: my first thought is that there must be an incredible amount of disrespect involved to do such a thing.

That said I sometimes part ways with things that are somewhat important to me. I shreddered some of my most unique works just to get some space and threw away dozens of notebooks.

It stings a bit, but you cannot keep those anchors around. Nobody cares but you - and you have no reason to care for your scribbles.

Perhaps one day my childhood works would be more valuable than my real current work if I became a van Gogh - but I will not.

It's about the sentimental value. "Newer" sketchbooks depending how far you are in doing art can be just initial sketches that would be later used in actual pieces, so if you lost those I mean it suck but the idea is probably still fresh in your head or you already did the big piece already.
But earlier shit is recorded memory. Even if it's cringe it reminds you of what was going on in your head back in the day. It's the same as throwing out a photo album that you made last month versus 20 years ago.

It takes a certain amount of disinterest in your partner and disrepect to not know to just throw away the sketchbooks you commited your whole life to. It is obviously a way for her to lash out while still having an out to hide behind a mistake. Probably jealous of the time he spends away with urban sketcher groups. Not saying he is innocent staying in a relationship like this, but shitty spouses do this all the time. There is not a chance in hell my gf would throw away any of my sketchbooks without double and triple checking - any normal partner would do that. It takes an insane amount of resentment to do what she did.

There used to be a website called leadholder.com, you can still find it on the internet archive. It was an incredible resource, basically a one stop history of drafting materials. The author of the site had an incredible collection of rare and historic drafting pencils, leadholders, drawing materials etc. dating from the 19th century to present. Many of the items were donated to him from other collectors. I found out through a reddit post of someone who knew him that the reason the site went down was because he went through a divorce and his ex wife through his completely unique, priceless collection into the garbage.

>be moid
>let your wife handle all the moving by herself while you're sleeping or seeing whores or something
>she tries to call you to ask about how to handle YOUR things (that you should be handling in the first place), dont pick up
>you dont ask her to elaborate and tell her to throw them away in one sentence like she's your servant
>she does
>surprised pikachu face
he could've said "throw them away, i can buy them back" and she'd have understood. but he just gave her a once sentence order, with no interest whatsoever in exchanging beyond what's absolutely necessary

it's his fault

If you ever do get married (doubtful), your wife is going to step all over you.

if you ever do get married, you'll spend decades fighting over trivia

marriage doesn't have to be gladiatorial. relationships at large can be polite and respectful. yet, polite and respectful people usually don't like hanging around fighters.

thus, if you're constantly in a fighting mood, chances are they'll avoid you. in addition to them being uncommon, there is thus little chances for you to get to meet them or to grow a relationship with them

That's why I'm picky and I don't care if I end up alone because I can't imagine a worse tragedy than marrying someone you don't even love.
