Procreate
Is procreate a good drawing app?

Do you need to paper screen protector thing for it? The resistances of the screen seems too slippery.

just buy it and try it yourself

It's a good app stuck on a shitty device.

definitely get a very rugged screen protector. Make sure to read the reviews to verify how rugged it is before you buy-- some of them get even more slippery than the glass after a while. IMO, drawing on an ipad is shit without heavy friction.

Just get a glass screen protector, don't get the paper-like ones. The paper-like ones will fuck up your apple pencil in just a few days.
Procreate is fine.

Paperlike screen protectors eat pencil tips like crazy, i had to change tip for metal one to prevent that. Procreate is good, tho i personally like CSP more, Procreate is touch focus and you cant (i belive) do stuff like assign keys from your bt keyboards for shortcuts, also line corection is too much for me, i always feel like im drawing too nicely with Procreate, and back in CSP my lines are wobbly etc. I want android version.

YMMV but I swapped to it from clip studio and I like it. It does everything I need it to do, and (for me personally) its kind of reminiscent of the simplistic fun that ms paint provides. I do wish it wasnt tied down to apple's ecosystem, but it is what it is.

How often do you change pen nibs? Those things cost like 5 bucks each

Yes its very good and unlike, le industry standard photoshit, actually designed by artists for artists
The brush engine alone completely mogs the fuck out of 90% of other apps but the fact they include features like liquify just makes it the most robust yet lightest art app period
The ipad is legit future tech for how powerful yet light and portable it is so you're really making a proper investment buying it

There are minor things that bug me like the barebones nature of the magic wand tool equivalent alongside the pen, you can buy custom tips to make them less blunt than the standard one but the in-built haptics are very lackluster and clearly trying to not intimidate the average buyer rather than appeal to an artist

I hope they'll bite the bullet and just add 2 analog buttons to it in future models like every other stylus ever, that'd make it perfect

I like it, the UI is heavily optimized for the iPad so it's very intuitive and you can do almost everything in it with just gestures. The downside is that it lacks a lot of features you'd expect from a more traditional drawing app.
If you're coming from PC I'd recommend checking out Artstudio Pro as a happy medium instead.

The screen IS slippery but nothing you can't get used to IMO.

The way tilt works in Procreate sucks. There's no reason for brushes to get larger when you hold them like a normal pencil. An on top of that the way brush sizes work is not linear so using the brush size slider is complete guesswork

cringe.
That said tablets are a poor drawing device either way. A toy for people who can't stop consuming.

I got one for travel and I sort of resent it. Might as well just draw on paper.

havent been keeping track but in the past 5 years not more than 3 times where i had to change it, but i think its mostly because i kept dropping it or was pressing harder than i should have in the early years of digital drawing

also paperlike screens really arent as rough as you think they are, maybe the cheap ones are

I love the interface and brush engine, I hate that it's exclusively on ipad. Procreate is the perfect child between Sai and Photoshop, but I hate the iPad's stupid small screen and slippery pen, it makes drawing for long hours very uncomfortable.

Switched from CSP, initially thought it was shite because limited functionality and no perceptive blending, but then realized I work at just about the same speed if not faster on an iPad using gestures vs having to set up an external tablet + shortcut remote. Brush engine and UI mogs the shit out of every program I’ve ever used too.
I have the 13in. M4 and it allows about a hundred layers now at the resolution I use (around 3k-4k) which is more than necessary.
I hope Apple makes the iPad even more expensive and inaccessible so only I can afford something so good

It's not bad, but less enjoyable than just drawing on paper (because of the slippery screen). Also, it drains power faster than my ipad charges. You might have a different experience if your ipad isn't old as shit.

You CAN use Keyboard shortcuts, I just don't think you can assign them. You do have a donut menu but I haven't tried it

There's some weird choices, like having a tool for gradient maps, but not having a tool for gradeints
The weird design bleed to Dreams and that thing game so underbaked. Whoever decided to prioritize an infite canvas and like, zoom dependant brush sizes over a fucking selection tool should genuinely be fired.
Anonymous No.7780184 [Report]
whats up with all these 'brush engine mogs'
???
you niggas clearly had never used SAI2; it actually blends whereas procreate just pushes color around
