>Make a drawing
>Feel kinda meh about the result
>Scroll past it today on Twitter
>Don't recognize it for a second and think "Oh that's really cool" before realizing it's mine

I'm not gonna lie bros, that felt pretty good, but it also got me thinking: Why are we so negatively biased towards our own stuff?

You are your own worst critic. When you draw something its easy to get lost in technicalities necessary to make anything, and you lose sight of the general appeal of the thing you made.

when you put many hours into a piece, you are aware of every tiny mistake, every flaw, every little bit you gave up on and said "fuck it I can't be turd-polishing another 20 hours", as well as how the result falls short of what you had in mind (which is always the case no matter how pro).
You can only see the flaws and what could have been, others only see what it is.

Hoenstly im beginning to develop the same exact feeling. I dont draw often but my art has been steadily improving over the years and in some aspects had gotten better than of some artists I've looked up to before.

So any time I look back at it or notice it somewhere on the side I too get struck by a similar thought like "Ah damn that was not bad".

A big part of it is definetly bias towards your criteria for what you find interesting or pleasant, e.g. I like solid form fundamnetals and legibale shape language and it is the primary focus in my own work, therefore I ofcourse would be attracted to work in the same ballpark which is what you must also be experiencing.

(i'm not op) smart people dont post their work on /ic/, unless you want to be connected to a cesspit.

I feel embarrassed about posting my work all the time. I cringe at the thought of people thinking "ugh. This guy and his boring art again?". So I try to avoid it.

Since you're making the piece, you're training yourself to find issues so that you can fix them or improve upon it moving forward.
Unless you go out of your way to congratulate yourself on the things you do well, you'll only train yourself to see the things you messed up on.
