ñ is a different sound than n (like in piñata)
The dashes above the vowels (á é í ó ú) show that the vowels is stressed when you otherwise wouldn't expect it to be (so hablo and habló are pronounced differently)

Oh, and in Portuguese: ~ over a vowel means that it's nasal, like "honhonhon" in French.
