That game got only on thing right, at the time the police were using nissan terranos in rural areas. The rest is just being lazy at localization.
If you want a deranged looking village in the mountains, I would have a look at some villages in the Pyrenees close to the french border (Tor in Lleida; Fanlo or Alqueza in Huesca), or somewhere between in Ourense and Leon (Cadtañedo, Bebimbre)

The only mistake they made was the accents. They had that obnoxious Mexican accent that sounds high pitched, where the intonation is so pronounced and weird.
Our accent is mostly monotonous, we sound like we're bored/tired. Latinx sound like they're trying to sing or something.
