but like fr why are they mixing Chinese alphabet with phonetic ones. Like bruh, the whole point of chinese alphabet is that different chinks can use it while pronouncing things differently. it low key makes no sense mixing it with a system that can't do that

They should just adopt the Latin aplhabet and be done with it. My cunt dropped the Arabic-Persian alphabet just fine and we did it in the 1960s. Most Japs can read the Latin aplhabet (at Independence, most Malaysians couldn't), so they have even less reason not to do it.

Imagine Japan had been divided like Korea. Imagine Japanese written in Cyrillic.

Hiragana is super cute and very easy to learn. I can understand not liking kanji (although I think they're cool), but their written language would not function well without it. A lot of words would have to be converted into phrases because they're only used in written form and have too many homophones to be quickly distinguishable outside of the common contexts.

>>211678066
There's history behind it. Kun'yomi readings are the main problem with Japanese written language, but their spoken language already existed before they imported Chinese writing system. A lot of new words were invented with on'yomi readings from Chinese hanzi, but why would they replace their oral language with a written language? It's not reasonable, so they allowed for using different readings and it became a very complicated system for foreigners, but for a native they already know the spoken language which makes it easier to remember all the readings.

>>211679255
Their language would become far less efficient if they did that. They should decide for themselves what their language should be and they don't want to get rid of kanji.
