We had that in the sixties but we grew out of it. Those things cause mold anyway.

i dont get it. are those aerated concrete blocks and the brick is there just for show? what do you do for insulation? rockwool and drywall?

here houses are actually built out of brick and insulated with styrofoam on the outside, no interior insulation needed.

Why do you people hate building with wood so much?

Building with wood is simply cheaper, that's why we do it for single family homes up to mid-rise apartment buildings. I hope mass timber takes off so we can get wooden high rises like the Japanese and Scandis have.
>it won't last forever
Buildings don't need to lasts forever. We built a bunch of concrete and steel office towers that could last a long time, but now they're sitting empty, so it doesn't matter. We don't know what we'll need in 50 years, so we should focus on building for right now.
>you can hear your neighbors
Sound from outside mostly comes through the windows, and sound between walls is more about insulation than what whether or not wood frame was used.

i don't know that much about the subject but based on what I've heard this is likely coming to the US in the future. supposedly they're able to process wood in a way that makes it much more resistant to fire and much more suitable for large buildings and high-rises than it was in the past.

>Building with wood is simply cheaper, that's why we do it for single family homes up to mid-rise apartment buildings.
if you look at a house as a generational investment then it makes way less sense to have a wooden one. in croatia when your kid starts a family they often just build another storey on top of your house. they also obviously last forever.

thats true, but we are talking about houses here no? if we put aside the longevity brick houses are also way easier to maintain. they dont get mold, they dont get thermites, bugs or animals cant live in your walls, they dont burn down, they arent affected by natural disasters. if a flood floods your brick house you can very easily repair it. wood is just very susceptible to damage.
>Sound from outside mostly comes through the windows, and sound between walls is more about insulation than what whether or not wood frame was used.
thats what i find so strage, the complexity of drywall, having to insulate it, and its still somehow cheaper than just laying a brick wall? actually in croatia a wooden house doesnt run you any less than a brick one.

North Americans have the advantage of lush forests, having only recently begun getting exploited. In Europe our woods are protected so the material while mundane elsewhere is expensive here. Also, I'm pretty sure there's laws forbidding from building heavily with wood anyway.

It's a superplywood. They basically take a bunch of wood chips and then glue them together into a solid chunk using extremely strong resins and polymers.

It isn't cheaper than concrete thoughever even after the IBC relaxed the rules due to the relatively limited amount of production and is therefore mostly only used for buildings looking to present themselves as being 'green'.

t. works in construction/development

American type light timber framing is the most popular way of house construction in Scotland and yet residents do not even notice their houses are made of wood frame because they are cladded with veneer brick wall.

Theory is mass timber becomes widely adopted, it could become cheaper due to scale which will enable cheaper high rises.

Who knows if that theory holds water.

It looks like a double skin wall with a porotherm brick outer layer and inner areated concrete blocks
they do serve a purpose in creating a void between two skins of the wall but the material choice was dictated by aesthetics.

Woodframe construction will still last quite awhile if you take the care to maintain it. My current home was a farmhouse built in the 1890s.
