It's like 2 years part of a range, several mental checks, then installing two separate safes in your home, one for the gun one for the ammo, and then you can buy a gun. Then you'll get unannounced police checks at home, and you can only use them on the range. Transporting it in 2 separate cases IIRC.

obviously we're talking about lead bullets here. if you miss, you kill your neighbor. can't risk that shit

the best home-defense weapon you can probably own in the netherlands is unironically a small fire extinguisher. it works as a giant pepperspray when it legally isn't, blinds the attacker and burns his eyes/throat and you are holding 3 kilograms of metal you can use to beat the attacker's ass

I don’t really need or want them. Shooting can be fun but where I am (city center) it’s mostly just an expensive pain in the ass. And I’ve never been interested in hunting.

I believe you may have wandered in the middle of tourist-infested central Amsterdam and saw 5 security guys, but they're there to stop shoplifters, not "dangerous people" lmao

>Law: If you own the area, you can use a gun.
by that logic, anyone with a backyard becomes a licensed executioner, never mind that bullets don't respect property lines, and your “private land” might back onto a playground, road or another house. this is a tight densely populated country where a stray bullet has a chance of hitting someone else. you don't get a free kill pass just because you have a fence and a mortgage

>No, they're written to make sure you can't rebel against the government that wants to take away all your rights. The commies were very good at this.

>i heard some of you carry rifles to buy bread since you do not require a permit to transport weapons
Varies a bit by canton (our gun regulations are regional rather than national), but this is basically bullshit. You don’t need a specific permit to move an unloaded gun, typically in some type of locked or otherwise secured case, from one place to another, but you can’t carry a loaded weapon anywhere without a license most people are not eligible for. It is mostly, really almost entirely, illegal to walk around armed with firearms.

The only people almost anyone sees packing on the streets here are cops, or sometimes soldiers, and even the soldiers don’t usually have ammunition.

Because obviously you have to make sure that the backstop is up to snuff even if you shoot on private property. A bullet can be lethal for multiple kilometres out, which I'm sure you understand.

And your comment about government flattening city blocks is obvious hyperbole, weapons of war aren't that useful in bringing the civilian population to heel. You can't go around flattening city blocks if you are dealing with an insurrection, you need cops to kick down doors, and that becomes a lot more dangerous a prospect if all of your civilians are packing heat.
