If the birth rate is really low then it has a compound effect (each generation gets progressively smaller than the last in a multiplicative fashion) leading to demographic collapse (not enough working age people, too many ols cunts)

I'm not that worried though, most western countries have a sustainable level of population decline, slow shrinkage is a good thing imo. It's mostly east asia that's going to see real serious problems.
