been there on multiple occasions, and my parents even more. after the wall fell it was extremely cheap, relatively close, and a nice country. even in the early 2000's on holiday we lived like kings there but things have changed. it's no longer the cheap second world country it used to be. good for them i guess

1989, eastern bloc collapses, socialism is replaced with capitalism, czech industries can't compete on open market anymore, factories are chopped up and sold cheap to westeners, mainly germans. We start producing sub-parts for germans, for cars, machinery, etc.

Also germany is the biggest economy in Europe and Czechia is the size of New York city proper, we were always german colony. Germans give us know-how and technology and we give them cheaper workforce.
