Originally it wasn't even Basque but Aragonese, although you could just call it Pyrenaic in general.

I don't know why people associate us with berets. It's neither particularly french nor did it stand the test of time any longer in France than anywhere else

Many other Europeans also wore berets. The military beret for example is British. And just like every other hat that people wore back then it also fell out of fashion in the middle of the last century.

I remember seeing a video with Englishmen giving their opinions on French people and talking about how the French were wearing ridiculous hats, and the videos would show an old man with an English flat cap. lmao
I don't think I've ever seen anyone with a beret in my life. You'd see literally any sort of hat before seeing a beret here

no, the military beret is literally british. They were used by british paratroopers in WW2. The french adopted it from the british while they were creating their own paras, as well as pretty much everything else that pertained to paras as much of post ww2 warfare here was adopted from the british

Okay Bruce, you got me. My real name is Jacques Jean-Pierre, i wear a beret with a white and black striped shirt, I have a moustache that I twirl every day and a little souI patch shaped into a triangle.
I wake up every day at 12, drink two cups of black coffee while reading the newspaper, occasionally saying Sacrebleu and c'est la vie. I then go to the eiffel tower factory on my bicycle, but not before making a stop at the bakery where I get two baguettes and a croissant.
When at work, I drink more black coffee and flirt outrageously with every woman and get into heated arguments with every man on independent films in black and white and existential philosophy. I eat a raw onion for lunch and head home at 2 in the afternoon. Then I drink a glass of red wine and fall asleep on the couch.
