Genuinely cannot believe Finnland is the happiest county in the world, how's that arctic, grim, dim, dark, gloomy frozen hell where nothing grows and old man winter fucked you up the rectum with an icycle every time you leave home the happiest? They boarder Russia and are constantly paranoid about it and they can't really leave home so most are terminally online and have trooned out, every Finn I personally got to know was depression personified. So how?!??? How the fuck are they the happiest??? What the fuck do they have in their lives to be happy about???

The studies that try to measure country happiness don't take anything what you said into considering. They do this instead
>Access to clean water? Happiness increased
>Access to quality education? Happiness increased
>Women aren't constantly getting raped? Happiness increased
The list goes on. very rarely do they ever bother examining individual happiness.

>Finnland is the happiest county in the world
I wouldn't trust nebulous polls compiled by fuck who knows whom with subjective criteria too much. These things are memes, mainly because if you think about it, there is no way to measure happiness. I don't actually think it's a useful criteria to consider. Mainly because we don't live to be happy, we live to do things that matter. It's a matter of personal meaning which will always be elusive to mass polls, these indices you mention mistake comfort for happiness. Those things are very much opposed to one another in most cases.

Umm yeah, russy, there is a way to measure happiness, you poll people or give them a short interview "hi, are you happy? Why/why not?"

>we don't live to be happy
Unironically most Russian I've ever heard being said, I don't know if you know but you have a human right to pursue happiness and I believe Slavs are human beings too so this extends to them as well.

I don't know if you are Russian but yeah
Finland always scores top 10 happiest or best lifestyle.
They have in general really good lives. Norwegians have gas, finns have metals now. Just because it's cold and mainly empty does not mean it has to suck. They actually use resource profits for public good. Very alien for a Russian

Even that question can be interpeted as either 'how good do you feel right now' or 'how have you been feeling lately' or 'how satisfied are you with your life, all of which could result in completely different numbers

Have you ever considered how cultural context may affect polls like this?
Like in reserved societies very few people will tell a stranger that they're unhappy, therefore you get an automatically skewed response by virtue of cultural context? Or that these polls may be compiled using other factors and questions altogether?

Hm, regardless I think it's important for the majority of the population to be happy, lest society degenerates and they lose their moral compass and their productivity goes down. I do agree that leading a meaningful life is the most important thing, and happiness is derived from that meaningfulness, I think you mistake the ability to realize those dreams and facilitation of reaching the goals you set for yourself for comfort.
Having grown up in a third world country and comparing my upbringing to that of someone in the first world I haven't had nearly 10% the opportunities they have for personal enrichment and I'm currently trying to catch up Asbest I can.

there's also a major political agenda to the "happiness index" or whatever the fuck they call it. the people making it are communists and socialist psychopaths that jizz over some equality promised land that they think exists in northern europe where everyone rides a bicycle and lives to 100 years old and neighbours hug each other...so they glorify sweden, denmark, etc as being "happy"

>important for the majority of the population to be happy
The issue is that I don't think you can actually measure something like happiness. It's a vague concept, at least in part. I think it's important for a society to have their basic needs met and to be healthy, to have an education and to be able to self-realize in some way. I just think ideas like happiness can be culture specific and vary from culture to culture. So something we could try to measure is how much people could self-reslize and develop and climb their social ladder. But even then that can depend on the culture a lot. That's why I'm not a big believer in some one onjective metric in terms of how "happy" people really are. It's a conflating of factors, and it often depends on the individual, given some basic societal needs are met.

Fair enough. I grew up in a very privileged environment while at the same time having a lot acquaintances, and later work partners, who were far less privileged than me.

Somebody made a YouTube video about this. He asked Finns. They all shrugged and complained about things. In the end he concluded that they were not the happiest, big rather that they are the least unhappy. Also the russkie above is right polling data and 'science' is absolute crap.

Nah he's just rich. Not remotely connected to politics. There are thousands of people like him here, just businessmen. And the acquaintances I mentioned aren't just from Russia, they're from all over the the world, Turkey included.

Well anyway can I come to your yacht too? I don't know exactly what I have that you might be interested in, exotics animals like a fennec maybe? You'll be the envy of your friends, or maybe a traditional carpet your babushka will hang on her wall to be the envy of all her friends.

Sure you can come bro. Fennec foxes are actually super cool, I wouldnt keep one in captivity though, wouldn't know what to do with it.
The carpet sounds sick too lol. Unfortunately one of my babushkas passed away yesterday but I'm sure she'd have loved it.
