Georgian liberals are going ballistic over the appointment of a new mi6 chief who has a Georgian surname and nothing else. It’s all over their news channels. They think they’ll get gibs and support this way.
In your country?

When Merkel (1/4 Polish) became the leader of Germany, no one even knew about her ethnic heritage until she revealed it in some interview several years after, because being partly Polish in Germany is rather shameful (even if actually pretty common)

In my country, we're mostly running articles about the fact that she's a woman (the first ever woman to hold the position of head of MI6). I didn't know she was Georgian until I saw it on /int/.

Where would you think that her surname is from if you didn't know that?

No idea, maybe one of the lesser known ethnic groups in the Slavlands, like the Sorbs or something. Also, her first name is "Blaise" which is a 100% male name, so it's just a very weird name overall.

It's one of the mountain surnames, hence not ending in shvili or dze. No weird letters to give it away either.
