The Bañolas Bushman, popularly known as the Black Man of Bañolas, was a male of the San ethnic group (traditionally referred to as "Bushman") who was exhibited in a taxidermied state as the main attraction of the Darder Museum in the city of Bañolas (Province of Girona, Spain). He was on display until the year 2000, when his remains were repatriated to Botswana.
He is considered a clear symbol of the effects of colonialism.
History
He was taken by the French taxidermist brothers Jules and Édouard Verreaux, who mounted his body in the early 1830s to send it to Europe. In 1916, he was acquired by the Darder Museum in Bañolas.
