The flag came from a time where we were trying to do a constitutional monarchy, so it was meant as an alliance between the people and the king, but the we discovered he was plotting with foreign nations to reestablish absolute monarchy and it felled off. We still kept the flag.

As a fun fact, at one point in time there was a strong royalist party that could have won elections, but the only legitimate heir to the throne their considered running for refused to accept the flag should be kept, but this was an unpopular enough choicr they failed.
