The design is good the code is not.
Their code is backward compared to the west.
Then again maybe it's a good thing because their games are less bloated.

You can feel the trashy netcode and bad servers. As well as a severe lack of quality of life features.

Cybersecurity is basically non-existent in Japan. Western intel doesn't share anything with Tokyo because giving it to them is the same as revealing all your secrets to North Korea, China, and Russia. If you're one of the few cyber experts in Japan, would you rather work for Nomura Securities or Softbank for millions of dollars or the Ministry of Defense for a tiny fraction of that?

Ballmer mismanaged everything, he was an idea guy but none of his ideas were fleshed out or thought through - except for Cloud and Enterprise which were run by.... Nadella. Now he's built Azure into the core of a company that would otherwise have been replaced by the mid 2020s at the rate it was going

This tech retardation was in the 90s, the Final Fantasy cases I'm talking about came from the 90s. These were people in their late 20s and early 30s too, in a company where there was nobody over the age of 40 working. There's no "elder japanese boomers want things the old way" excuse. As someone with a passionate interest in the series I found out it was an Iranian doing the programming heavy lifting for them.

This is not to mention that in the early 2010s they tried having their own in-house engine for Final Fantasy, it became a completely buggy and unusable mess, and then finally caved and switched to Unreal.

From what understand Nintendo actually does good data retention and version control. Which is why Square sniffed around and hassled them for the old source code for Legend of Mana.
