I had the opportunity to live in China and make good money but I turned it down. China seems to have very modern conveniences, surpassing that in Western countries, but the people seem to still have a very thirdie mindset. Constantly spitting on the ground, smoking in your face, skipping lines, disobeying traffic laws, etc. They are very collectivist and materialist as a result. If you want to marry a Chinese woman you literally have to buy her from her family with an insanely huge dowry. The people seem friendly but I don't think I could ever live there unless it was somewhere like Shanghai or another T1 city.

Pretty much this imo. It'll take a few more decades for their societal conscious to catch up with their economic/tech development, but I want them to succeed to act as a counterbalance in preventing total globohomo.

There are many aspects of their culture which looks "alien" to me, on the other hand a Chinese could think the very same about mine.

They can produce high quality products, just don't expect them to be dirt cheap. In some fields, they have replaced the Japanese. (I recently wanted to purchase a relatively basic cd transport, and was surprised that only the high end Japanese brands were available, not a single Sony, not a single Philips. I ended up buying a Chinese one, which so far is working fine.
There's one thing which really feels disturbing is the apparent lack of empathy on those big cities
