Idk they just don't have that much for me to do. I asked for more stuff and said I'm happy to help with whatever, so they know I'm not very busy but I'm not complaining if I don't have shit to do and keep getting paid. I'd rather be a bit more busy so I feel like I'm not just going to get fired to save money...

I hear it's pretty tough to get hired these days even if you have a CS degree. I have a degree in Industrial Engineering and only programmed a lil bit of C. I wonder how I could even break into an entry level role. Build up a portfolio?

I hate technology so fucking much and I started developing back in 2000 with java, then javascript, then visual basic then python.
All those hours wasted just to leave programming due to agile, scrum and all that shitty methodologies so I became tech support. I hate standups, sprints, because all of them require you a fucking meeting. Now I do tech support and my manager wants fucking meetings for every fucking incident on servicenow.
>wtf dude? don't you have a life? do you masturbate while listening to our voices? just send a fucking email or ping me on teams, I don't want a fucking meeting

Yes. I like it because the pay is great ($165k in chicago) and I work from home. I dislike it because the company I work for got acquired by a private equity firm and merged with a shitty SaaS company and they are an anchor tied around our neck. Their product is shit and their tech debt is overwhelming even though they're a younger company.

>>211894485
Ai will replace everyone else except tradies first, so I dunno why you're acting superior.

I don't think genuine software engineers will be replaced for another decade at least, but I'm saving and investing as much as I can to prepare for the future where 90% of the population is unemployed.

No pensions sadly, but we have something called a 401k that some employers offer that is tax advantaged and you can invest as you like. It has an annual limit ($23.5k this year) that I always max out. Part of my paycheck gets deducted and goes to that, and my employer matches a small part of it. You can also do another tax advantaged thing on your own called an IRA that has a smaller contribution limit (like $6k a year I think). I max that out too.

401k is probably way better if you are smart about it since in Finland you pay for the national pension companies that pay your pensions once you retire and while there are limits what they can do with it and they cannot cut the amount they pay (though they can decide to not increase it by a lot in the future), its not really yours and it certainly doesnt equal to the amount I would get if I had that money for myself

it wouldnt be that bad if the whole idea of pensions wouldnt sound unrealistic to me anyway. I just treat it as tax, not something I pay for my own good.
