>Do you speak Spanish in your country? In this country, almost never. There are Spaniards, and, curiously, a number of Dominicans in my city, and I have a couple of Spanish friends, but I mostly speak English with the Spaniards—partially because my wife is usually with us and she doesn’t speak Spanish. The only Dominican I’ve ever had an extended conversation with here was a cleaning lady who spoke functional Swiss German.
I spoke it fairly regularly in the US, though, and I go to Spain now and then. I’m conversationally functional but nowhere near fluent… probably a low B2 nowadays, although I just barely passed a c1 exam to get college credit back in the day.
And I speak a retarded caveman’s Russian if I’m lucky. I had a lot of grammar drilled into me, so I remember all the case endings, but I remember almost no words to inflect.
