As a kid I was always told it was the ultimate freedom, you can just drive wherever you want and whenever.
Of course, nobody mentioned fuel costs, insurance, parking costs and maintenance.
I own a car but I learned quickly it's just a money trap.
Maybe in countries with less expensive fuel (7usd/gallon here) and such it's more of a freedom but here it's something you get because you need it.

Here you don't even need an uber. I live in Gothenburg and got trams, buses and the train for longer trips. Sadly I still need a car for my commute but other than that I mostly use the trams.

driving on the croatian highway is fucking kino. the a1 gets a bit slower during peak tourist season but there other ones are never congested.

the d8 road is the best road in the country period, even in the summer. but you do have to look out for tourists and coked up locals during the summer.

the roads are pretty good in croatia compared to the whole region but id say people sometimes drive too fast and drunk driving happens often but these people are mostly a threat to themselves.
