When I went to Taiwan I was shocked that they were the friendliest, easiest going and happiest people in East Asia while Chinese were all rude and lived like slaves. It made me realize the ccp has likely been one of the worst organizations to ever be created if it's what lead to this divide.

Taiwan has been culturally independent from the mainland for far longer than the civil war. Japan colonized us for 50 years and before that Taiwan was treated as de facto independent by the Qing for around 100 years before that.
The mainland dealt with the century of humiliation while Taiwan didn't and had to deal with the Taiping rebellion as well. All the while Taiwanese were doing their own thing and loving in peace while the mainlanders were literally eating each other alive. Basically there is about 200 years of cultural divide between us.
