US settlers came in families, and there was no interest in interacting with the natives, (maybe only trade), also they didn't believe in civilizing (Christianizing) them, because they were the elect or something.
In Brazil they sent more single men, who obviously were more open to ally themselves with native through marriage, and the catholic missionaries, were happy to teach their religion and baptize all the mutt babies.
Also, they started with a tradition of giving indigenous names to even pure white children, as the priests were lingquist autists.

Most of the early settlers were at total mercy of the natives. Portugal kinda used Brazil as their own Australia, sending undesirables to either establish relations or perish.

Do you mean Spanish America? We have plenty of unmixed natives in the Amazon. We don't have unmixed blacks.
