Why did india fail to make it big in tech? In the 1970s the government really went in hard in trying to make india a major player in global tech. IT parks, universities were built, public sector companies were founded to innovate. In the 1990s india opened up to the global economy and went economic deregulation to encourage innovation.

Today india only produces an army of codemonkeys that it exports around the world. India has no big tech companies that can compete with any international giant. India has no tech products, no innovation in anything unlike china.

What went wrong?

India exports any slight talent it has to the loss of local businesses and your tech companies are just there to cradle the balls of US corporations for as cheaply as possible. Europe is in a similar situation but has more notable tech companies.
China on the other hand is basically forced to innovate by themselves for themselves, as outsourcing software development to China is a non-starter.

Social media has network effects that lead to a natural monopoly. The usa having the most customers ensres it's always them unless you put regulations in place like China and Russia did.

You have to do this part very carefully and well thoughtout so you don't ruin everything you had been building
