If you go by that logic, then it gets FAR worse. Not just sugar, without India we'd even lack cotton textiles, and, more importantly, every kind of digital technology, because the modern world literally runs on the Indian positional numeral system. Multiplying even three-digit numbers would be very difficult without it.
